Xiamen Travel Diary: A Walkable City with Abundant Delicacies

Xiamen is truly a city made for walking. Its compact size and charming alleys make it enjoyable to explore all day without feeling bored. On the first day, I started my trip with a stroll along Gulangyu Island, where the sea breeze and scenic paths instantly lifted my spirits. Sitting on a bench and gazing at the ocean, time seemed to fly by. At Shuzhuang Garden, the traditional architecture and serene ponds left a lasting impression. It felt like stepping into a tranquil Chinese drama. Surprisingly, there weren’t many tourists, allowing for a leisurely visit and great photo opportunities. Climbing to the top of Sunlight Rock was a bit challenging, but the panoramic view of Xiamen from the summit made it all worthwhile. The Piano Museum exceeded my expectations. Even if you’re not particularly interested in pianos, the beauty of the space itself is enough to enjoy. The entire Gulangyu Island exudes a subtle European vibe, giving off an exotic feel as you wander through its streets. And the food! From fish ball soup and Xiamen-style peanut porridge to fruity jelly desserts, the light and delicious local dishes kept me indulging throughout the trip. Even at simple eateries recommended by locals, every meal was a hit.
