Cloud Sea Trail Health Path: From Xiamen Tianzhu Rock Temple to Century Peace Park

After breakfast at the Westin Hotel in Xiamen on the weekend, cross the Xianyue Road overpass, walk for more than 10 minutes, and start the Cloud Sea Trail Health Path exercise from Xianyue Mountain Park. From the south gate of Xianyue Park, walk up the mountain trail, and you will reach the famous Xiamen Tianzhu Rock Temple. To the left along the quiet health trail is the direction to Dongdu/Haicang. To the right is the direction to SM/Subway Line 1 Tangbian Station. This time, I plan to choose to walk towards the direction of Haicang Bridge. It belongs to Heshan Xianyue Community. The temple was founded in the late Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty (1712—1722), and because it stands alone on a solitary ridge and is hidden in deep mountains, it is rarely visited, and the history of its destruction and reconstruction is unclear. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, a monk from Nanshan Temple in Zhangzhou, Zhuanmi, took up residence here, worked hard, and rebuilt the temple, insisting on the dual practice of agriculture and Zen. In the early 1930s, the abbot of Miaoshi Temple, Master Shanlin, rebuilt and expanded the temple halls and dormitories, covering an area of more than 300 square meters. After Master Shanlin passed away, his disciple Master Zhengming inherited his mantle. On the eve of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the temple was destroyed by war and reduced to ruins. In 1998, the reconstruction of Tianzhu Rock Temple was approved by the municipal government. The Buddhist venue was presided over by Monk Shi Mingde from Nanputuo Temple. The temple is designed according to traditional Chinese temples, with a focus on axial symmetry, and the architectural complex is based on yellow walls and yellow tiles, representing the traditional Minnan style.
