Xiamen folk activity Chegulong

Chegulong, also known as Nong Chegulong and Chegulong formation, is jokingly referred to as 'Min Nan Er Ren Zhuan', and is a form of folk entertainment with a strong local flavor in the Minnan region. It is a kind of singing and performing art of the Han nationality, which is loved by the people for its simple and easy-to-learn actions, and its humorous style. Chegulong is a remnant form of ancient Nongxi. 'Che' means to flip, and 'Nong' means to dance. In the past, it was very popular on festive days such as rural god welcoming competitions, agricultural leisure programs, and wedding celebrations. Almost every village elder can say Chegulong: 'Three steps forward, three steps back, twirling around and twisting again.'
