General Zuo Quan at Zhuangbi

This photo was taken in August 1940 in Zhuangbi Village, Wuxiang County, Changzhi City, Shanxi Province. It is the only photo of General Zuo Quan with his wife Liu Zhilan and daughter Zuo Taibei. After Zuo Taibei was born, General Zuo Quan's family of three lived together for three months in this small temple behind the headquarters of the Eighth Route Army in Zhuangbi Village. These were the only three months they spent together. At that time, the Eighth Route Army was organizing the 'Zheng Tai Railway Sabotage Operation,' also known as the famous 'Hundred Regiments Offensive' in the history of the Anti-Japanese War. As the deputy chief of staff of the Eighth Route Army and the chief of staff of the front headquarters, General Zuo Quan was extremely busy with military affairs, which is an understatement. Although the operations room and his residence were in adjacent courtyards, General Zuo Quan had no time to take care of his newborn baby and his wife who had just given birth. On August 20, 1940, the 'Hundred Regiments Offensive' began, and General Zuo Quan became even busier with military affairs, leaving no time to go home. To avoid affecting General Zuo Quan's command of the battle, Liu Zhilan took the three-month-old Zuo Taibei to Yan'an on August 30. This departure became a final farewell. On May 25, 1942, General Zuo Quan was killed in action at Shiziling in Matian Town, Liao County (now Zuoquan County), Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province. In memory of General Zuo Quan! Ticket Information: Free Opening Hours: 9:00-18:00 Transportation Information: No public transportation, self-driving required.
