Nanchan Temple

Nanchan Temple, also known as Fusheng Zen Temple, is located at No. 32 Xiangyang Road, Liangxi District, Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province, within the northern area of the Wuxi Nanchan Temple Scenic Area. It is situated in the southern corner of the old city of Wuxi, by the ancient canal. Nanchan Temple was first built in the first year of the Taiqing era of the Southern Liang Dynasty (547 AD) and was initially named Huguo Temple. It was one of the 480 temples of the Southern Dynasties. In the first year of the Yongxi era of the Northern Song Dynasty (984 AD), a pagoda was built (later named Miaoguang Pagoda). The temple was rebuilt during the third year of the Chongning era of the Northern Song Dynasty (1023-1031 AD) and was granted the name 'Fusheng Zen Temple'. It is commonly known as 'Nanchan Temple' and is reputed as 'the most flourishing forest in Jiangnan'. Nanchan Temple covers an area of 7,000 square meters and is divided into east and west routes, mainly featuring buildings such as the Hall of Heavenly Kings, the Mahavira Hall, and the Miaoguang Pagoda. In 1983, the Miaoguang Pagoda in Nanchan Temple was announced by the Wuxi Municipal People's Government as one of the first batch of cultural relics protection units in Wuxi.
