Mount Wutai, located in Xinzhou, Shanxi Province, China, is one of the four famous Buddhist mountains in China and is also known as one of the five major Buddhist holy sites in the world. Mount Wutai is composed of a series of mountains and peaks, among which the tops of five peaks are flat like a platform, hence the name Wutai. These peaks are Dongtai Wanghaifeng, Xitai Guayuefeng, Nantai Jinxiufeng, Beitai Yedoufeng, and Zhongtai Cuiyanfeng. The highest point of Mount Wutai is Beitai Yedoufeng, with an altitude of 3061.1 meters, known as the "ridge of North China". The geographical environment of Mount Wutai is very unique, with complete and rich strata, especially the typical and peculiar Precambrian strata, which is a key area for geological research in China. The natural vegetation of Mount Wutai is mainly grassland, composed of meadows, grasslands, and shrubs, which is an excellent summer pasture. Due to its special geographical location and climatic conditions, Mount Wutai has rich biodiversity and is an important habitat for many rare and endangered animal and plant species. In terms of culture, Mount Wutai is an important Buddhist holy site in China, with 86 religious activity sites, including famous temples such as Xiantong Temple, Tayuan Temple, Pusa Ding, Nanshan Temple, Dailuo Ding, Jinge Temple, Wanfo Pavilion, and Bishan Temple. These temples are not only symbols of Buddhist culture, but also the main body of the historical culture of Mount Wutai. With its historical status as a Buddhist holy site, profound Buddhist culture, exquisite ancient architectural art, and rich natural resources, Mount Wutai has been listed as a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction, a national key scenic spot, a national geological park, and a national forest park, and was listed as a World Cultural Heritage in 2009.
