Mount Wutai

Mount Wutai, located in the northeast of Wutai County, Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province, is the foremost of China's four famous Buddhist mountains and one of the world's five major Buddhist sanctuaries. It is surrounded by five peaks: East, South, West, North, and Central, each with a flat top resembling a platform, hence the name Mount Wutai. The highest peak, North Peak Yedou Peak, has an elevation of 3058 meters and is known as the 'Roof of North China.' Mount Wutai is not only a Buddhist sanctuary but also boasts rich natural landscapes and profound cultural heritage. It is a tourist destination that integrates natural scenery, historical relics, ancient architectural art, Buddhist culture, and folk customs. Currently, Mount Wutai has 47 existing temples, many of which were built by imperial decree, with numerous emperors visiting for worship. Famous temples include Xiantong Temple, Tayuan Temple, Pusading, Nanshan Temple, and Dailuo Ding.
