Wushan in Chongqing is a very low-key place

Wushan is a niche destination. Although many people may know Yuan Zhen's poem 'Once the sea turns into mulberry fields, all clouds but Wushan's are idle', they do not really understand Wushan. Wushan is located in the eastern part of Chongqing, bordering Shennongjia in Hubei. It is the site of the Wu Gorge in the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River and was a necessary passageway to the Ba and Shu regions in ancient times. Many famous people such as Li Bai, Du Fu, Bai Juyi, and Yuan Zhen have written timeless poems about Wushan. For example, 'A branch of red flowers drips with fragrant dew, the clouds and rain over Wushan in vain break hearts. Who in the Han palace can compare, pitiful are the flying swallows leaning on their new makeup', 'Once the sea turns into mulberry fields, all clouds but Wushan's are idle', 'Wu Gorge and Wushan have many willows, morning clouds and evening rain harmonize from afar', 'The evening rain is torrential, the man does not return, the empty room is guarded alone', and so on. It is said that there are over 5000 poems written about Wushan by literati throughout the ages, which means 'arriving at Wushan, one must have a poem'. What is the Wushan praised by so many poets like? Wushan has clear mountains and beautiful waters, often shrouded in mist, with stunning scenery. However, it was once less visited due to inconvenient transportation. But now, Wushan has opened high-speed rail and built an airport, making transportation very convenient. I spent four days and three nights in Wushan and found these attractions to be very worthwhile. 1. Wushan Little Three Gorges The Little Three Gorges is one of China's earliest 5A tourist attractions, consisting of Longmen Gorge, Bawu Gorge, and Dicui Gorge. Cruising through the gorges on a boat is like entering another world, with continuous mountains, soaring waterfalls, protruding hanging coffins, and misty clouds. Sometimes it seems like you've reached the end, but a turn reveals another charming village. PS: The Little Three Gorges boat ticket is 120 yuan, the whole journey takes 4 hours, and it also includes the Lesser Little Three Gorges. I think it's a great value. 2. Wushan Goddess Scenic Area Composed of 'Goddess Peak', 'Goddess Stream', and 'Goddess Sky Road', the Goddess Peak is said to be the incarnation of Yao Ji, the daughter of Emperor Yan, and is the main peak among the twelve peaks of Wushan. Its shape resembles a graceful young girl, and many poets have written verses for it, such as Liu Yuxi's 'Why would the immortals come down from the nine heavens, if not for King Xiang of Chu', Wang Anshi's 'Morning and evening, empty clouds and rain, the eternal sorrow of King Xiang remains', Meng Haoran's 'Do you not see the goddess of Wushan becoming the clouds, with red and green mist softly enveloping the dawn', and so on. The Goddess Sky Road offers spectacular views along the way. You can overlook the Goddess Peak, look down on the Yangtze River flowing into the horizon, and often walk through the mist, as if walking in the clouds. 3. Three Gorges Light Night Tour Cruising on a boat through the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River, you can take in the scenery on both banks. At night, the Wushan county town has a light show. Seen from the cruise ship, the layered houses appear and disappear in the mist, creating a dreamlike illusion. Although the night view here is not as grand and spectacular as in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, the combination of mountains and water makes it more three-dimensional. In addition to the above attractions, Wushan also has Xiaozhuang, Dachang Ancient Town, Qingshi Ancient Town, Elephant Trunk Hill, and other scenic spots. Wushan's cuisine is also famous, especially Wushan grilled fish, which is said to be the best in Chongqing. You must try it when you visit Wushan. PS: In today's era where everyone is a self-media, it's hard to find a place that is both beautiful and uncrowded. However, Wushan is an exception. It's like an uncarved jade, not overly developed. Friends who like niche attractions should definitely take a look.
