Saint Mary's Cathedral

Saint Mary's Cathedral is located in Sydney, Australia, next to Hyde Park. It is the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney. In 1930, it was designated as a minor basilica by Pope Pius XI and is dedicated to Our Lady Help of Christians, the patron saint of Australia. This is also the largest church in Australia, situated on College Street in the heart of Sydney's central business district. The foundation stone of the first St. Mary's Church was laid in 1821, but it was destroyed by fire in 1865. A temporary wooden church built in 1869 was also destroyed by fire. Subsequently, a new Gothic Revival style church was constructed in the 19th century. The twin spires, completed in 2000, have become a landmark of the city.
