Wenzhou~Wuma

Many domestic cities now have a long-standing commercial street that has been transformed into a pedestrian street, and in Wenzhou, it is Wuma Street. Wuma Street is the most famous pedestrian street in Wenzhou, formerly known as Wuma Fang. It is one of the old streets in the old city of Wenzhou, where the local century-long history of changes has been witnessed. It is also one of the must-visit destinations for tourists strolling through the downtown area of Wenzhou. In fact, the entire commercial street can also include the alleys of Yandian and the surrounding area of Shamao River on the south and north sides of Wuma Street. Entering from the side of Shamao River, the whole street is basically filled with snack shops, with many large and small shops, and many temporary stalls offering a variety of snacks. I tried the crispy pork belly, which was not as delicious as the one in Zhangzhou. The lotus root powder was served hot, with various ingredients added such as peanuts, sesame, red dates, raisins, and rose petals. It looked quite nice, and the taste was also good, quite delicious. I also tried the lean meatball soup and fish ball soup. Although they are called 'balls,' they are not actually spherical; they are long strips of meat mixed with flour, which the shop owner cooks in the soup using a special spatula. After eating snacks to my fill, I saw many people taking photos at the wall with 'Wenzhou' written on it. I tried a strange thing, ice cream with a beaten egg. Initially, I thought it would be a weird and unpalatable dish, very fishy, but I just wanted to try it. It was surprisingly delicious with the addition of black sesame. It was very fragrant. Walking through the alley to the adjacent Wuma Street, the entire Wuma Street is not long, less than 500 meters; the street is also not wide. Although some buildings have been renovated later, you can see that some still bear historical traces. The whole pedestrian street is very short, mainly surrounded by commercial streets, but the items sold are not distinctive. It feels like things that can be bought anywhere in the country, not attractive. Most of them are specialty stores, with more clothing, shoes, and hats. There are also signs of old theaters, but they have all been converted into other specialty stores. There are also some time-honored brands. The order on the periphery is chaotic, with severe traffic congestion. Besides shopping, some buildings on Wuma Street date back to the time when Wenzhou was first opened to foreign trade, and they are worth taking some photos of.
