Congratulations 🎉 to Linglang on having a baby! The first panda cub makes a dazzling debut Linglang, a "new mom" at just 7 years old, showed incredible maternal instincts during her first birth. From the footage shared by the staff, you can see her carefully carrying her baby in her mouth, with movements so gentle it’s unbelievable. She holds the baby tightly in her arms and occasionally licks it, her eyes full of tenderness and love, truly a perfect example of a "top-notch mom"! Speaking of Linglang’s "love story," it’s quite interesting. In early March this year, she successfully mated naturally with the male panda Yaxing. Yaxing is slender-limbed, lively, and has excellent genes, making him a perfect match for Linglang. By late May, Linglang showed signs of pregnancy such as reduced appetite and less activity. The keepers closely monitored her, and finally, around 3 p.m. on June 21, Linglang showed signs of labor. After a long and anxious wait, the little baby was born safely at 11:50 p.m. that night! Since then, the care team has been vigilant, carefully looking after the mother and baby. Currently, both Linglang and her cub are in very stable and good condition, which has finally put everyone’s worried minds at ease. To avoid disturbing the mother’s nurturing, the staff have not yet taken the cub for a health check, allowing this mother and child to enjoy their intimate time together~ Linglang was already a "little internet celebrity" before. She has a lively personality, and her playful antics in the snow and hanging upside down have melted many hearts. Few would have imagined that the mischievous Linglang has now become a great mother. It’s unknown whether her baby will inherit her lively genes and become the "funny star" of the base. Breeding captive giant pandas has always been a challenge, but since the 1980s, the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda has been continuously working on breakthroughs, successfully overcoming the three major difficulties of "estrus, mating and pregnancy, and cub survival." Today, the number of captive giant pandas has grown from 6 in 1983 to over 380, and the birth of Linglang’s baby is the best testament to these efforts.
