Hokkaido Heritage in the Northernmost Area

The Wakkanai Port North Breakwater Dome is located about a 15-minute walk from the Wakkanai Ferry Terminal. This quiet breakwater is reminiscent of ancient Rome. The breakwater, which is 427m long, has 70 columns and a semi-arched dome, was constructed between 1931 and 1936. A railway once ran through it, and it is also a symbol of the time when it was bustling with people crossing to Sakhalin.
