Dutch Fishing Vilage

Volendam is a quaint and charming fishing village set by lake Ijesse. It makes for a wonderful daytrip from Amsterdam. In my case though, I arrived from Utrecht, passing by Amsterdam on the way. Almost or under an hour of comfortable journey. My plan was to explore this picturesque village along with marken during the second half. First impressions were that of a lively place. There were lots of people around, the weather was good. I have to say it is a bit touristy but there's still fun to it. There are lots of shops and cafe like restaurants. It is worth trying seafood here. The harbour was full of all manner of ships and had several very old wooden sailed ships. There are ferries that take you to Marken. Lake ijessen is lovely. I saw a beach as well. But it seemed small in comparison to the number of daytrippers that had arrived. All in all it was still worth strolling around. It's good to know what you are getting into.
