Mu Cang Chai, Vietnam

Mu Cang Chai boasts the most stunning and beautifully shaped terraced rice fields in the world. Located in Yen Bai Province, approximately 300 kilometers from Hanoi, it takes about 9 hours by sleeper bus to reach this breathtaking destination. The terraced rice fields here are like a masterpiece painting, surpassing all other terraced fields you may have seen. Even the most beautiful ones elsewhere pale in comparison to Mu Cang Chai. However, travelers should be prepared for some challenges, as Mu Cang Chai is a rural area with a rather tough lifestyle and difficult transportation. We rented motorbikes to explore the area ourselves since there are no public buses or tour vehicles available. The roads are mostly steep and narrow, suitable only for motorbikes, and require skilled driving. The food here is quite different from Hanoi, with limited options and dishes unfamiliar to us. It’s local cuisine that may not suit everyone’s taste. Despite these hardships, the journey is absolutely worth it to witness the magnificent views of the terraced rice fields.
