One-day trip to Vientiane, from Udon Thani A short but fulfilling trip! This morning we flew from Bangkok to Udon Thani Airport, which took about an hour. Then we took a car to Nong Khai border checkpoint, which took about 45 minutes. Once we reached the checkpoint, we completed the border crossing documents to Vientiane. It was not difficult at all. Those who do not have their own car can conveniently hire a taxi or van from the airport. First stop – That Luang Stupa Since you are in Vientiane, you must stop by to pay homage to That Luang Stupa first. It is an important landmark of Laos. The golden stupa is very beautiful. The atmosphere is peaceful and you can comfortably pray for blessings. Next stop is Patuxai. This place is similar to the Arc de Triomphe of France but with a Laotian feel. There are many beautiful photo spots. When you go up to the top, you can see a panoramic view of Vientiane. During the day – Stop to recharge at “Som Tam Nai Soi”. This is a small restaurant in an alley, but the taste is extraordinary! The Lao papaya salad is very spicy. The papaya salad with crab and fermented fish sauce is very fragrant. In the evening, travel back across the border at Nong Khai border and take a car back to Udon Thani Airport. Prepare to fly back to Bangkok just before the sun sets.
