Comparing one of Vienna's two iconic cafes, DEMEL, with Sacher...

Located close to St. Michael's Church and Julius Meinl, Cafe DEMEL offers a terrace seating area that is separated by potted plants, providing a relaxing spot to unwind while still feeling the vibrant atmosphere of Vienna. In December, it gets too cold, so we opted for the warm and cozy interior of the cafe. The luxurious decor is truly enchanting. One of the goals of this trip to Vienna was to try the Sachertorte at both Cafe Sacher and DEMEL, which are famous for their dispute over the original rights to the cake. However, Sachertorte is quite a heavy cake, and there are many other unique Austrian sweets to try, so we decided to go for different menu items instead. We did purchase a Sachertorte from DEMEL as a souvenir, and it was a great success! The cake was securely packed in a wooden box, so even though it wasn't frozen, we were able to bring it back to Japan without it getting damaged. The regular size costs 48 euros. Considering that the torte at Cafe Sacher costs over 90 euros, it might be a good idea to enjoy the Sachertorte at Sacher in Vienna and take DEMEL's as a souvenir. While Sacher has a well-stocked souvenir corner at the airport, DEMEL only has a restaurant at the airport and no souvenirs. On the other hand, DEMEL's main shop is far more well-stocked. If you line up around 9:45, you can get a seat as soon as it opens! Needless to say, both the coffee and the cakes are exquisite. Definitely give it a try.
