St Stephen's Cathedral

The Stephansplatz is a square at the centre of Vienna, it is named after its most prominent building, the mother church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vienna- St Stephen's Cathedral. The most important religious building St Stephen's Cathedral has borne witness to many important events in Habsburg and Austrian history with the initial foundation stone dated back to 1137. The Cathedral is 107 meters long, the tallest of its four towers is the south tower at 136 meters, the tallest church in Austria. The front of the nave and part of the northern side are open access free, the rest to get up close to the altar, climb a tower, or view the catacombs, you will need to pay. You can take U1 or U3 to Stephansplatz station around 2 minutes walk, you will reach the Cathedral, it is open daily from 0600-2200.
