Khorezm | Urgench Urgench/Vpreh4 Urgench (Urgench/Vpreh4) is located in the Amu Darya Valley in the northwest of Uzbekistan and is the capital of Khorezm. 🏜️ Ancient Khorezm was located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, with a unique geographical location and rich resources, making it one of the key cities for exchanges and trade between the East and the West on the ancient Silk Road. Before 1929, it was called "New Urgench" to distinguish it from the old capital of Khorezm, a famous ancient country on the ancient Silk Road (the old capital of Urgench is now called Kunya-Urgench, also known as Yulongjiechi). Today's Urgench is a modern city with typical Soviet architectural style. With a railway station and an airport, and about 30 km southwest of the ancient city of Khiva, most tourists often use Urgench as a transit point to Khiva.
