The quaint stone steps of Tojoji Temple

Tojoji Temple, a mountain temple in Tsuchiura City Founded in 796 (15th year of the Enryaku era) at the request of Emperor Kanmu Founded by Saisen, this temple was originally one of the bases of the Tendai sect in Hitachi Province. In the early Kamakura period, it was converted to Shingon Buddhism after receiving the respect of the Oda clan. In the Edo period, it was given a red seal by the Edo Shogunate.
