Trat Provincial Museum

Trat City Museum is located on Santisuk Road, Mueang District, Trat Province. This city museum uses the old provincial hall building as a museum. It is a source of learning about the history, culture, and way of life of Trat. It is also a center for learning, promoting, and disseminating the national cultural heritage and a cultural tourist attraction. Originally, this building was used as the government office of Trat Province. It was a single-storey wooden building on high foundations. However, when the government center moved to a new location, the building was left empty for a long time until it deteriorated. Later, the Fine Arts Department, Ministry of Culture, registered the old Trat Provincial Hall as an ancient site, announced in the Government Gazette on December 18, 1996, Volume 113, Special Section 50, Page 3. On April 10, 2004, the old Trat Provincial Hall, which was an ancient site, was almost completely burned down, leaving only the pillars. It was caused by a mentally ill person who came to live there. In 2005, government officials and Trat people jointly considered that: It is likely that the old Trat Provincial Hall building that was burnt down should be renovated to preserve its original form and established as a museum of the history, culture, and way of life of Trat people. The Fine Arts Department, Ministry of Culture, is requested to design it and estimate the total cost.
