In Oirase Gorge, It's a Walk in Nature's Masterpiece

Oirase Gorge in autumn feels like stepping into a living painting. This 14-kilometer trail from Ishigedo to Lake Towada bursts with fiery reds, oranges, and yellows, complemented by cascading waterfalls and a crystal-clear stream weaving through the foliage. It’s a magical destination for anyone who loves nature, photography, or a peaceful escape. Along the trekking route, it's truly every step that is beautiful, but here are some key spots that are easier to notice and serve as helpful reference points: 1. Ishigedo (0 km): The starting point offers sweeping views of the stream framed by autumn colors. 2. Ashura-no-Nagare Rapids (2.1 km): The rushing waters and moss-covered rocks create a dynamic, vibrant scene that’s great for photos. 3. Kudan-no-Taki (Nine Steps Falls) (3.3 km): This small waterfall flows over natural stone steps, making it one of the gorge’s recognizable spots. 4. Cycling the Gorge: 2–3 hours. 🍁 Where to Stay: It’s best to stay at least 2 nights near the gorge or at Lake Towada. The trek can easily take up your whole day, so staying nearby gives you time to relax and enjoy the area at a slower pace. In the morning, take the bus to the starting point, or if you’re already staying near Ishigedo, you can take the bus back after your trek. Reminder: Check the bus schedule for your season—buses might stop running earlier than you expect, especially in winter. 🍁 How to Get There by Public Transportation: By Bus: Take the JR Bus Tohoku “Oirase-go” from JR Hachinohe Station to Ishigedo. The scenic ride takes about 100 minutes. Buses typically run from 8:00 AM to late afternoon during summer, but always check the latest timetable before you go. 🍁 Tips for Visiting: 1. Visit Mid-October to Early November: This is when the autumn foliage is at its peak. 2. Wear Comfortable Shoes: The terrain is mostly flat but the walk is long, so good shoes make a difference. 3. Dress for Changing Weather: Pack layers, water, snacks, and sunscreen to stay prepared. 4.
