We had also read up on the evening illuminations at Rikugien Garden and planned the visit in the late afternoon so as to be able to catch the park before & after illumination. We are glad to catch that cos the scenic views of the autumn leaves & the lake is really beautiful beyond words. When the lights lit up, it's another level of beauty, and a must visit for any traveler during the fall peak season. There's also a lot others at the park even though it's a weekday night. However, it's still better to go on a weekday as weekend will certainly be more crowded due to the popularity of the garden.
