The name translate to "beckoning cat", as the cat is believed to beckon good luck and fortune. When the cat raised its right paws, it will bring fortune and money, where as if the left paw is raised, it will attract more customers. I visited Gotokuji Temple, famous as the birthplace of the Maneki-neko cat, about a 10-minute walk from Gotokuji Station on the Odakyu Line. Countless Maneki-neko cats are enshrined within the temple grounds, creating a truly breathtaking sight! It's truly a great photo spot. The temple is also home to the magnificent grave of Ii Naosuke, a Tairo (chief advisor) of the late Edo period, allowing you to feel the footsteps of a notable figure in Japanese history.
