[Tokyo/Otori Shrine] The oldest shrine in Meguro Ward

Otori Shrine is an ancient shrine that continues to watch over Meguro Ward. During the reign of Emperor Keikō, it is said that Emperor Yamato Takeru stopped off at a shrine dedicated to Kunitokotachi no Mikoto and prayed during his expedition to the eastern provinces. This is the current location. The spirit of Emperor Yamato Takeru descended on this site as a swan and was enshrined as Tori Myojin, with the shrine building completed in the first year of the Daidō era (806). This is the year the shrine was founded. Today, it is located right next to Yamate-dori and Meguro-dori streets, where cars are constantly passing by! When you enter the sacred grounds, you will be transported away from the hustle and bustle outside and will be drawn into a solemn atmosphere.
