It is one of the most important Buddhist buildings in the world and actually includes three Buddhist temples, namely Borobudur Temple, Mendu Temple, and Palang Temple (notes on the discovery of the latter two).. It is speculated that these three temples were built by the Shailendra dynasty in the 8th to 9th centuries, and their similar architecture and decoration reflect the sacred and unified spiritual connection between them. During the restoration process in the early 20th century, the Borobudur Monastery, Mendu Monastery, and Palang Monastery were established on a straight imaginary line, which may have been a clever combination, but there are also claims that these three temples represent different stages of Nirvana. The Borobudur Monastery is located in Elo, between the Progo River and the Magkarang River in Borobudur Village. It stands on a hill at an altitude of 265 meters, with Merbabu Mountain and MerAPI Mountain to the east and Sindoro Mountain and Sumbing Mountain to the north.
