Birthplace of the Black Forest Cake

Zur Mühle is a cafe located in the heart of Black Forest, along the Titisee Lake in Titisee-Neustadt, Germany. The cafe has indoor and outdoor seating, overlooking the majestic lake. The Black Forest cake has been rumored to originate from the Black Forest region in Germany. So since we were on road trip around the area, we decided to stop by to have a taste of the original version. The chocolate sponge was light, with fresh cream filling and cherries soaked with Kirschwasser, a cherry liquor that’s a speciality in the region. The cake was decadent, with a stronger liquor content as compared to what we have at home. There are other cakes available at the cafe if you can’t take alcohol.
