A massive temple inspired by the Pure Land Paradise, Jingtu Temple

Xi'an, the starting point of the Silk Road, is not far from Tianshui, where one of China's four great grottoes, the Maijishan Grottoes, is located. However, Tianshui is also home to another remarkable site, the grand Jingtu Temple, situated about 15 kilometers away from the Maijishan Grottoes. As its name suggests, this temple was designed with the Buddhist Pure Land Paradise in mind. While it is speculated to have been built around the same time as the Maijishan Grottoes, its exact construction date remains unknown. The temple has undergone continuous renovations up to recent times, so it lacks an ancient or nostalgic atmosphere. Nevertheless, its sheer scale, splendor, and especially the stunning roofs and architectural structures leave a lasting impression. Interestingly, the temple also incorporates elements of Taoist temple design, a characteristic often seen in China, making it a fascinating destination for travelers.
