Presenting the Maijishan Grottoes Travel Guide, read it and avoid any pitfalls

Maijishan, anciently known as the 'Crown of Linzhu in Qin territory,' is located 28 kilometers southeast of the Maiji District in Tianshui City, Gansu Province, within the Longshan forest. It was named for its resemblance to a wheat stack in a farmer's field and is one of China's four major grottoes. This has always been a travel destination I longed for, and I finally made it during this year's 'May Day' holiday! The Maijishan Grottoes were founded during the Later Qin period of the Sixteen Kingdoms (384–417 AD) and have been excavated and renovated over more than ten dynasties, including the Northern Wei, Western Wei, Northern Zhou, Sui, Tang, Five Dynasties, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing. There are currently 221 grottoes of various sizes, with 3,938 statues in 10,632 figures and 979.54 square meters of murals. Renowned for its large number of exquisite ancient clay sculptures, it is hailed as the 'Oriental Sculpture Gallery' and is now a World Cultural Heritage site and a national 5A scenic spot. It was announced as one of the first batch of 'National Treasures' in 1961. 📚Travel Tips: To ensure the safety of visitors and cultural relics and to improve the quality of the visit, the Maijishan Grottoes scenic area has initiated an emergency visitation mode, opening both Emergency Line 1 and Emergency Line 2. Currently, there are only these two lines available for visiting the grottoes‼️ 🟢Emergency Line 1: The entrance is the East Gate, passing through Grotto 168 (Northern Zhou), Thousand Buddha Corridor (Northern Zhou), Grotto 4 Sanhua Tower (Northern Zhou), Grotto 5 Niuer Hall (Sui-Tang), and Grotto 98 West Cliff Great Buddha (Northern Wei) to the West Cliff exit. 🌈Highlights: The route passes through grottoes of grand scale and steep paths, with the highest point being 84 meters vertically, allowing you to experience the grandeur of ancient predecessors carving large grottoes. ⏰Tour Time: 2.5—3 hours 🟣Emergency Line 2: The entrance is the Middle Area, passing through Grotto 37 (Sui), Grotto 13 East Cliff Great Buddha (Sui), Grotto 15 (Northern Wei), Grotto 44 (Western Wei, special-grade grotto), and Grotto 78 (Northern Wei, special-grade grotto) to the West Cliff exit. 🌈Highlights: The route passes through the most representative Grotto 44 (Western Wei, special-grade grotto) and one of the earliest excavated grottoes, Grotto 78 (Northern Wei, special-grade grotto), etc. The path is relatively gentle, allowing you to experience the essence of the 'Oriental Sculpture Gallery' of Maijishan Grottoes. ⏰Tour Time: 2—2.5 hours 📌Tips: 1️⃣Visitors can only choose one tour route, and one ticket is only valid for one route. You cannot change routes, go backwards, or cross lines‼️ 2️⃣It is recommended that visitors who are afraid of heights, carrying infants, or elderly, choose the gentler Emergency Line 2 for their visit‼️ 3️⃣Next to the ticket window is the Maijishan Post Office, be sure to get a stamp and buy cultural and creative products‼️ 🎫Ticket: 80 yuan, take the sightseeing bus from the ticket office, round-trip fare is 15 yuan 🚗Transportation: Take bus 34 from Tianshui Train Station directly to the ticket office; if driving to the ticket office, private cars are not allowed into the scenic area, you can park at the nearby B&B entrance, parking fee is 15 yuan 💰Guide Fee: First-level Chinese guide 160 yuan; Second-level Chinese guide 140 yuan; Third-level Chinese guide 120 yuan; Foreign language guide 160 yuan
