Tianjin is home to Liang Qichao's former residence, the "Yinbing Room"

The "Yinbing Room" is the name of the study in Liang Qichao's former residence. The term "Yinbing" (drinking ice) originates from Zhuangzi's "Human World": "Now I receive orders in the morning and drink ice in the evening; how can I have internal heat?" It originally metaphorically referred to one's inner worries. At that time, Liang Qichao was entrusted by Emperor Guangxu to carry out reform and modernization. Facing the internal and external crises of the country, Liang Qichao's inner anxiety was understandable. How to relieve this "internal heat"? Only by "drinking ice" could it be resolved. Therefore, he used the term "Yinbing" to express his inner worries and anxiety. Liang Qichao's former residence is located at No. 46 Minzu Road, Tianjin. It was built on a vacant lot on West Horse Road in the old Italian concession, purchased by Liang Qichao in the early Republic of China period. It is a two-story Italian-style brick and wood structure, built in 1914. The main building has cement exterior walls decorated with floral patterns, a uniquely shaped red tile roof, stone steps, and a building area of 1,121 square meters. The first floor served as his study, and the second floor was used as bedrooms and reception rooms. Liang Qichao completed his later writings here.
