Ancient Culture Street, Tianjin

Ancient Culture Street in Tianjin is located in Nankai District, Tianjin. It stretches 687 meters from Laotieqiao Street (Gongbei Street) in the north to Shuige Street (Gongnan Street) in the south. It is a commercial cultural street characterized by traditional Chinese-style commercial buildings and Mazu culture, reflecting Tianjin's traditional and folk culture. Ancient Culture Street originated during the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty (1403-1424). Located around the Sanchakou area, the street became a gathering place due to the canal transportation economy and Mazu culture, later developing into Gongnan and Gongbei Streets. Ancient Culture Street is one of the birthplaces of Tianjin city. The district features cultural attractions such as the Tianhou Palace, Jade Emperor Pavilion, and the former residence of Yan Fu, as well as intangible cultural heritage like quyi (traditional performing arts), New Year paintings, and clay sculptures. The street is known for its "Chinese flavor, Tianjin flavor, cultural flavor," with its two-story brick and wood buildings in the style of the Ming and Qing dynasties, maintaining a simple and elegant appearance throughout the street.
