Vajiralongkorn Dam, Kanchanaburi

Vajiralongkorn Dam, formerly known as Khao Laem Dam, is the first rockfill dam in Thailand with a reinforced concrete surface. It is located on the Kwai Noi River and is a multi-purpose dam with the primary purpose of generating electricity. It was built to block the Kwai Noi River in Tambon Tha Khanun, Thong Pha Phum District, Kanchanaburi Province. Construction began in March 1979 and was completed in 1984. It has a capacity of 8.86 billion cubic meters and has 3 generators installed at the water discharge area with a capacity of 100,000 kilowatts, providing an average of 760 million kilowatts of electricity per year. To get to the dam, take Highway No. 323 through Ban Pong, Luk Kae, Tha Maka, and Tha Muang into Kanchanaburi Province. Then turn left at Kaeng Sean Intersection on the Thong Pha Phum-Sangkhla Buri route. If you pass this route, we recommend that you stop by to see the beauty of the dam.
