Marukhanakhon Temple

Phra That Marukhanakorn was built in 1993. It looks like Phra That Phanom but is smaller. It is made of square bricks and mortar. The base is 20 meters wide on each side and 50.9 meters high. It means that it was built on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of His Majesty the King's ascension to the throne. The 9 points represent the 9th reign. It was sponsored by Mom Luang Thawisan Ladawan, who was the Royal Secretary, and Khunying Boonsri Santhayangkun, along with devotees from all over the country. Phra That Marukhanakorn is the youngest of the Phra That Phanom's chedis. However, Wat Marukhanakorn is almost three hundred years old. It was built by Phra Boromracha, the Lord of Marukhanakorn. It used to be a prosperous temple of the city until 1767 when the city was eroded by water and the riverbank collapsed. An epidemic broke out and many people died.
