Stepping into Hida Folk Village, I was captivated by the ancient farmhouse with its thick thatched roof—this is the Former Wakayama Residence. It is not just a building but a reflection of rural life and wisdom. This old house, originally from Kamioka Town in Hida City, features the iconic triangular roof design typical of Hida architecture, capable of withstanding heavy snow and strong winds while providing warmth and shelter. Inside, traces of past life remain: an earthen floor with a hearth, a storage room for rice and grains, and neatly arranged wooden farming tools. This "live-work" space layout evokes a warm image of a family gathered around the fire, women spinning and weaving. The Former Wakayama Residence has been designated as an Important Tangible Folk Cultural Property.
