Dou Dafu Temple was built to commemorate Dou Chou, a minister of the Jin Kingdom during the Spring and Autumn Period. It has a history of over 700 years. Dou Dafu Temple is mainly used for praying for rain, because Dou Chou once built water conservancy facilities in the north of Taiyuan (Shanxi really worships... a wide variety of things). 🍂Dou Dafu Temple Highlights The four bas-reliefs on the mountain gate are from the Yuan Dynasty. The caisson ceiling of the Xian Hall is an octagonal caisson structure made entirely of wood tenon and mortise, a masterpiece of small woodwork from the Yuan Dynasty. The rear column of the Xian Hall is also the front column of the main hall, which is quite special. The plaque with the words "Ren Zhou San Jin" written by Emperor Tongzhi. The painted gate of the main hall is an original Yuan Dynasty standing powder gilded dragon painting. If you come early in the morning, you may see the complete pattern of two dragons playing with a pearl when the gate is not yet open. Dou Dafu Temple is located at the foot of Juewei Mountain, with the Fenhe River in front, and the environment is very beautiful. There are also Jingyin Temple and Dofu Temple on Juewei Mountain, but they are less accessible. It is recommended to visit if you have plenty of time or if you are driving.
