Taiwan Day 2

DAY 2 | APR 1 Keelung & Juifen Today we traveled by train and walked from our accommodation to Songshan station, then took a ticket to Keelung station for 30 NTD and it took about an hour to get there 👟. We walked to our accommodation in Keelung for about 10 minutes. Our accommodation for tonight is Light in, where check-in is available around 3 PM for 2,000 THB with shared bathroom. The advantage of choosing this place is that it's close to various places such as Miaokou night market and the fresh market, which is our lunch destination. They provide many facilities such as washing machine, refrigerator, microwave, water dispenser, and even a clothes dryer. -------------------------------------------------- Our lunch was at Renai Market on the second floor, position D43. We went to a Japanese restaurant with a Taiwanese chef. Since this city is close to the sea, we didn't hesitate to try the fresh fish here. The food was not expensive compared to Thailand and very fresh. -------------------------------------------------- After lunch, we headed to Zhengbin Port Color Houses by taking bus 788 for about 25 minutes. Unfortunately, the weather was not on our side as it started to rain, so we decided to stop by Hi there café first. The café opens at 12 PM and offers a variety of drinks and food, including local food, snacks, and American-style breakfast. We tried rice with tea soup and seafood toppings, which tasted delicious and fresh like we were exploring the ocean. The price is a bit high, but they don't require a minimum order per person or per menu. -------------------------------------------------- At 2:15 PM, we took bus 103 to Jiufen 🏮🏮🏮. Our goal was to try the recommended food places. - We tried the fish ball soup at Yowanbo, which was very tasty. The texture of the noodles was chewy, and the soup tasted like it had fresh seafood. It cost 35 NTD for the baked rice and 60 NTD for the fish ball soup. - Grandma Lai's is a dessert shop that sells various flavors of steamed buns in green bean soup. You can choose to have it hot or cold for 50 NTD. - Xing Fu Tung is a bubble tea shop where we tried the Brown Sugar flavor. It wasn't too sweet, but the taste of the tea was full, and the milk they used was quite mild. It cost 75 NTD. Unfortunately, we had to leave Jiufen early because the fog was too thick to take any pictures or see anything. -------------------------------------------------- At 7 PM, we took bus 788 to Miaokou night market, which took about an hour. Our goal was to try various foods and stop at stall 55. - The recommended fish soup was amazing. The taste was similar to Tom Yum, but with fresh seafood. It cost 75 NTD for a bowl of soup and 35 NTD for baked rice. - We found a grilled eel stall that wasn't on the list, and the owner didn't speak English. However, we managed to order using sign language and the grilled eel tasted like a sweet and salty Isaan-style sausage. We recommend pairing it with fresh garlic and a cold beer. - Lastly, we tried the grilled sausage on the side of the road. It was okay, but the shape looked like a small Isaan-style sausage from home. However, it wasn't sour like the ones at home, but rather salty and sweet. We suggest grabbing a cold beer to go with it.
