Donghe Tribe - Taiwan

On Taiwan's east coast lies a hidden gem, the Donghe Tribe. While many have tasted the famous Donghe buns, few have truly explored Donghe. One day, I happened to drive by and decided to stop for a while, step out of the car, and take a stroll to get to know this small village. The large parking lot near the old Donghe Bridge was almost empty, but the bridge pillars warmly welcomed us with a group of greeting monkeys 🐒: "Welcome, are you here to visit the Donghe Tribe? Please come in." The monkeys seemed to invite us, and imagining this playful scenario, I walked into the village. Every house in the tribe exudes a strong indigenous vibe. The murals on the walls tell stories of ancestors, their legends, and snippets of daily life. It feels as though time stands still here, compelling visitors to pause and savor the moment. Through these stories, I could sense the residents' deep love and respect for the land and their dedication to preserving their heritage. The coastline of Donghe is equally captivating. The endless interplay of blue and green, the gentle waves caressing the shore, and the silhouettes of cyclists and hikers along the road seem to be searching for answers deep within their hearts. The village boasts many unique guesthouses, including several surfer-friendly accommodations. I heard there will be an international surfing competition at the end of this year—I must come back to witness it. Children's laughter echoes in the air, while elders sit under the trees, recounting tales of the past and future, passing down precious cultural memories. Though their lives may have been confined to this small tribe, their love for the land allows life to shine with unparalleled beauty. Donghe Tribe, with its natural splendor and cultural richness, captivates everyone who visits. Every time I leave, I carry its essence in my heart, hoping that in future journeys, it will remind me to cherish every moment and dance in harmony with this land.
