Taiwan's First Botanical Garden with Over 2,000 Plant Species!

The botanical garden was established in 1896 during the Japanese colonial period and served as an important site for botanical research at the time. In 1921, it was officially renamed "Taipei Botanical Garden," becoming Taiwan's first botanical garden. Spanning approximately 8 hectares, the garden preserves experimental and research plant species introduced from various parts of Taiwan, Japan, mainland China, and Southeast Asia. Today, the garden houses around 2,000 plant species. The garden also features two city-designated historic sites. One is the "Qincha Xingtai," a late Qing Dynasty structure originally located at the current site of Zhongshan Hall in Taipei. It was relocated to the botanical garden in 1933 and is the only remaining Minnan-style official building from the Qing rule in Taiwan. The other is the "Herbarium," built in 1924, which is Taiwan's first plant specimen museum.
