Visit Xinbeitou Station

During the Japanese colonial period, the Xinbeitou branch line was built to develop the hot spring tourism industry in the Xinbeitou area. In 1916 (Taisho 5), the 'Xinbeitou Boarding and Alighting Place' was established and later renamed 'Xinbeitou Station'. The name Xinbeitou originated from this. Xinbeitou Station is the only century-old station remaining on the Tamsui Line and even in Taipei City. The station building is made of wood, with carved brackets under the eaves and a unique 3+1 combination dormer window added during the 1937 expansion (Figure 18). However, in 1988, the station was closed due to the suspension of the Tamsui Line and the building was relocated to the Taiwan Folk Village in Changhua. In 2003, with the rise of cultural heritage preservation awareness, Taipei City and private groups worked together to bring the station back. Nichirong Asset Co., Ltd., moved by the enthusiasm and expectations of Taipei citizens, agreed to donate Xinbeitou Station to the Taipei City Department of Cultural Affairs. The station was reassembled in 2016 to simulate traffic issues, and it was finally decided to place it in Qixing Park near its original site (as seen today). The restoration project began immediately and was completed in April 2017, reopening to the public. 📍Address: No. 1, Qixing Street, Beitou District, Taipei City 112 🕰️Business Hours: 10:00–18:00 Closed on Mondays

New Beitou Station - During the Japanese colonial period, in order to develop the hot spring tourism industry in the New Beitou area, the New Beitou Branch Line was built. In 1916 (the 5th year of Taisho era), the "New Beitou Passenger Station" was established and later renamed as "New Beitou Station". The name "New Beitou" originated from this. New Beitou Station is the only remaining century-old station on the North-South MRT Line and even in Taipei City. Its station building is made of wood, and the carved flower brackets under the eaves and the 3+1 combination tiger windows produced during the expansion of the station building in 1937 are a major feature of the station architecture.
