Visiting Fuyang Eco Park: A Hidden Forest Sanctuary in the City

Fuyang Eco Park is just a 5-minute walk from MRT Linguang Station and spans 3.8 hectares. During the Japanese occupation, the area was used as an ammunition depot. After the restoration, it was guarded by soldiers until 1988. In 2000, the site was designated as parkland, and from 2005 to 2006, the Parks and Street Lights Office of the Public Works Department planned and constructed the new park. The park features eight main themed areas, including the Entrance Interpretation Area (Figure 18), Ecological Stream Restoration Area (Figure 3), Cultural and Historical Exhibition Area, Natural Succession Area (Figure 9), Butterfly Watching Area (Figure 5), Red Giant Flying Squirrel Observation Area (Figure 4), Taipei Tree Frog Observation Area (Figure 4), and Cicada Rest Area (Figure 8). The preserved tunnels (Figures 1, 13), bunkers (Figures 11-12), and weathered stone steps (Figure 10) on the outskirts, along with the old military village houses (Figure 18), give the feeling of being in a bygone era. Climbing up, you can see Taipei 101 (Figures 14-15) with a great view. Due to long-term military control and isolation from human interference, the entire valley has maintained an ecological landscape almost identical to that of over a century ago.
