Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall

Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall is one of the symbols of Taiwan and a must-see tourist attraction in Taipei. It was built in 1976 to commemorate and honor the former president Chiang Kai-shek. It is a white building with a blue octagonal roof in Chinese architectural style. It stands out prominently in the center of Freedom Square. There are 89 steps in front, which is the same age as the president. Inside, there is a large bronze statue of him in a sitting position with a smiling face, which is different from other statues of him. There are 2 soldiers guarding it at all times. On the inner wall behind it are the words of his political philosophy: ethics, democracy, and science. On the lower floor of the memorial hall is a room exhibiting the history of former president Chiang Kai-shek. There are various photos, personal belongings, private cars, and a model of his work, as well as stories about the development of Taiwan in various aspects. An important highlight that should not be missed when visiting the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall is the changing of the guards ceremony. Which will be every hour from 10:00-16:00 every day. In addition, there will be a national flag raising ceremony in the early morning and evening, at 06:00 and 18:10 from April to September. Another period is at 06:30 and 17:10 from October to March. The soldiers who perform this duty will take turns from the 3 forces, which will have different uniform colors. They will perform this duty for 4 months at a time. Admission is free.
