Intricate Carvings: Ziyun Temple

Ziyun Temple in Qingshui primarily worships Guanyin Bodhisattva and is one of the most significant religious centers in the Qingshui area. Locals often refer to it as "Guanyin Pavilion." • Historical Background Legend has it that during the Kangxi/Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty, a stonemason from Quanzhou hung a pouch containing incense dedicated to Guanyin on a tree here. At night, the tree emitted a mysterious glow, attracting residents to worship. Eventually, a temple was built as a center of faith. The structure has undergone multiple renovations and reconstructions, with the current five-story pagoda-style building completed in 1980 after reconstruction began in 1972. • Architectural and Spatial Features Ziyun Temple showcases a grand and ornate traditional temple style, characterized by golden glazed tiles and intricate carvings and paintings. Inside, it houses various functional spaces, including the Yuan Tong Hall, Ling Xiao Hall, Da Xiong Hall, Wen Chang Hall, Tai Sui Hall, Di Zang Hall, and a garden. Additionally, it features guest rooms and a cultural building, blending religious and artistic functions. • Cultural and Festive Activities Apart from Guanyin's birthday (19th day of the 2nd lunar month) and the Ghost Festival (7th lunar month), the temple hosts the "Second Mother" pilgrimage to Gaomei on the 1st day of the 9th lunar month. On Teacher's Day, Wen Chang Dijun is worshipped. Ziyun Temple also serves as a key stop for the Dajia Mazu pilgrimage, as well as the Baishatun Mazu and Shanbian Mazu processions. • Integration of Social Education and Cultural Promotion Beyond being a thriving religious center, Ziyun Temple organizes various social and educational activities, such as calligraphy, chess competitions, blood donation drives, riddles, and cultural exhibitions.
