The Master of the Nets Garden is a typical Suzhou-style garden located in the southeast of the city, inside the Fengmen Gate, on Kuojiatou Lane. The back door leads to Shiquan Street. Local chronicles record the address as No. 11, Kuojiatou Lane, Daicheng Bridge. The garden is compact, with exquisite architecture and well-proportioned spaces. With its exquisite layout, profound cultural connotations, and elegant garden atmosphere, Chen Congzhou praised it as "the epitome of small Suzhou gardens, and one of the best gardens in the country, a model of doing more with less." It is undoubtedly a representative of small and medium-sized classical gardens in Jiangnan. 1⃣️ The Master of the Nets Garden was built in the Southern Song Dynasty. It was originally the site of the "Wanjuan Hall" of Shi Zhengzhi, a book collector and official from Yangzhou who served as a minister. The garden was named "Yuyin" and later abandoned. During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, Song Zongyuan, a retired official, bought and rebuilt it, naming it the "Master of the Nets Garden." The garden's layout and scenic spots are imbued with a strong sense of seclusion. 2⃣️ The Qin Room is located in the southwest corner. It was originally a place for the owner to entertain guests and play the qin. The courtyard is deep and quiet. The Qin Room faces south, with a rockery made of lake stones against a white wall. The "World Cultural Heritage Series" book "The Master of the Nets Garden" states that it is "said to be the work of Ge Yuliang." Since it is "said," let's not discuss its authenticity. Upon closer inspection, the rockery is indeed carefully stacked, reminiscent of Ni Zan's landscape paintings. If it echoes the marble hanging screen "Cangyan Diezhang" above the qin bricks, it is a piece of "High Mountains and Flowing Water," but a large ancient pomegranate bonsai blocks the view. The brick carving "Iron Qin" above the east wall door on the left side is said to mean "iron bones and a qin heart."
