Shengze Town belongs to Wujiang District, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, located at the southern end of Jiangsu Province. During the Three Kingdoms period, a general named Sheng Bin from Eastern Wu set up camp and stationed troops in the area of Qingcao Beach, hence the place was called 'Shengzhai.' Since there are two large lakes to the east and west of Shengzhai (anciently called 'ze'), it was named 'Shengze.' Shengze was initially a village, and during the Tang Dynasty, it belonged to Chengyuan Township, Jiaxing County. After Wujiang County was established, Shengze has always been under the jurisdiction of Wujiang County. The upgrade of Shengze to a town happened in the early Qing Dynasty, and it was also one of the later towns to be established among the original seven major towns of Wujiang.
