Designated as a Jeollanam-do Tangible Cultural Heritage on February 25, 1985, the Hyanggyo was burned down during the Japanese invasion of Korea but was rebuilt at its current location. Along with Namwon Hyanggyo, it has developed into the largest Hyanggyo in the Jeollanam-do region and has traditionally been a stronghold of the Confucian scholars. In spring, you can see spring flowers such as plum blossoms and magnolias, and in summer, you can see trumpet creepers.
