Koto Fortress

The Fortress of Coto is a fortification located above the city of Coto, consisting of walls, towers, citadels, gates, bastions, cisterns, and their outbuildings and structures. It was mainly built during the period of the Republic of Venice to protect Coto and surrounding areas from foreign invasions. It combines Illyrian, Byzantine, Venetian and Austrian military architecture. In 1979, these fortifications, along with the old town and its natural environment, were inscribed on the World Heritage List as a cultural and natural heritage site. The way up the mountain starts from the north gate of the old town of Kotor, along the steep and winding old town trail, climbing about 1,350 steps (it is a private property, there is a toll booth at the entrance, it costs 8 euros), and it takes about 45 minutes to reach the fortress. Climb up to the fortress to see some ancient turrets and bunkers, and get a panoramic view of the entire fjord and town. Such extraordinary enjoyment makes me feel that all the sweat and hard work along the way are well worth it! On the way back, we will still take the ancient road of the old city. After passing Our Lady of Remedy Church which can be seen from the old city, we will return to the old city and enjoy a variety of exotic food and beverages.
