Must-Visit in Seoul: National Museum of Korea

If you're visiting Seoul, the National Museum of Korea is a must-see destination! I spent six hours exploring the permanent exhibition halls, possibly because I needed to use Papago for translations. The permanent exhibitions are free and do not require reservations. The museum has three floors: the first floor showcases Korean historical artifacts from Gaya, Baekje, Silla to the Republic of Korea; the second floor features paintings, calligraphy, and donated collections; the third floor displays world artifacts from Mesopotamia, Central Asia, South Asia, China, Japan, Europe, as well as sculptures and ceramics. The logos at the entrance of each regional section are adorable and unique. The usual tour sequence is from the first to the third floor, but I started from the third floor to avoid a large group of schoolchildren, which I recommend since the national treasures are on the second and third floors. The museum has three standout features: 1️⃣ Many 3D models of artifacts allow curious visitors to touch and feel, some even mimic the texture of real exhibits, providing a tactile experience. 2️⃣ Digital images and electronic screens enhance interest in historical exhibits, offering dynamic displays and magnified images for a closer look, along with categorized examples and videos explaining craftsmanship and production processes. 3️⃣ There are plenty of resting areas, some with wireless charging for phones, where you can relax and enjoy the scenery or watch high-definition exhibit videos. The museum entrance is a popular photo spot with views of Namsan Tower, but I couldn't get a "life photo" as there was no one to take my picture. However, I did help some Korean ladies with their photos. The museum's gift shop is also worth a visit, with a wide variety of products, though it closes 10 minutes before the museum.
