Tongren Grand Canyon in Guizhou

The Tongren Grand Canyon is a scenic spot within the Songtao Miao Autonomous County of Tongren City, Guizhou Province, China, located in the Daxing Town area in the southern part of Songtao Miao Autonomous County, near the Tongren Fenghuang Airport. It is 25 kilometers away from Tongren City and 7.5 kilometers away from Tongren Fenghuang Airport. The canyon is divided into the Grand Canyon scenic section and the Tiansheng Bridge scenic section, with a total length of 52 kilometers. The altitude of the area ranges from 408 to 520 meters, and the altitude of the drifting river channel is between 408 and 428 meters. Tongren Grand Canyon is known as "China's most charming canyon". Karst topography has created many canyons in the Wuling Mountain area, and Tongren Grand Canyon is a representative of the karst topography in Guizhou. The river of Tongren Grand Canyon originates from the Suma River in the La'er Mountain area of Fenghuang, flowing through Panxin and Miaowang City before converging with other rivers of Songtao into the Macao River. The Tongren Grand Canyon scenic area is divided into three parts and four sections. The three parts are the canyon, drifting, and lake tours, which are a combination of steep, hidden, secluded, vast, strange, and dangerous elements, composed of canyons, forests, air, and streams forming a fantastic natural scenery. The four sections are canyon tourism, passionate drifting, interactive exploration, and high-altitude zip-lining. In the area of Tongren Grand Canyon, there are national second-class protected animals such as mandarin ducks, red falcons, and red-bellied pheasants; threatened species included in the "China Biodiversity Red List" such as porcupines, leopard cats, and small deer; as well as national second-class protected plants such as ginkgo, southern yew, happy tree, camphor tree, and beech tree. The Tongren Grand Canyon scenic area is 25 kilometers away from Tongren City and 7.5 kilometers away from Tongren Fenghuang Airport. The area features clear waters, peculiar stones, lush forests, abundant flowers, cliffs, karst caves, waterfalls, and charming scenery. The scenic area includes four sections: canyon tourism, passionate drifting, interactive exploration, and high-altitude zip-lining. Tiaoma Pavilion The Tiaoma Pavilion scenic spot was constructed with the help of twenty-one horses carrying materials. Among them, a male horse named Erhei, though small in size, was very strong and could carry twice the load of the other horses. However, the long-term transportation took its toll on Erhei, and one day, while on the way, it jumped off the plank road and disappeared into the rapid river in the blink of an eye. This is the origin of the name "Tiaoma Pavilion". Adventure Plank Road The Adventure Plank Road is about 800 meters long and is located in the downstream section of the scenic area, which is also the very bottom of the Grand Canyon. To pass this section, one must start from the end of the service area platform in the scenic area. The Adventure Plank Road is suspended at the bottom of the mountains on both sides of the canyon, winding around the mountains, and is extremely steep. The Adventure Plank Road is all about cliffs and majestic mountains that rise and fall, with iron pillars hanging horizontally, clinging to the wall and holding one's breath while moving cautiously, known as "the most dangerous path in Tongren Canyon".
