Silay, Philippines: One-Day Tour of Sugar City

After visiting the Philippines seven times, I decided to explore Silay in Negros Occidental. 📜About Silay This hidden gem of a city is rich in history. Known as Sugar City due to its thriving sugar industry in the Middle Ages, the city boasts a variety of colonial architecture, both large and small, in different styles, making it incredibly captivating. 🏞Tour Route: San Diego Pro-Cathedral～Balay Negrense Museum～Silay Port Sunset 1⃣San Diego Pro-Cathedral This Romanesque church, built in 1927 by an Italian designer, had its dome painted black during World War II to avoid bombings. Now, it's painted in a fairytale pink and white. 👉In addition to the stained-glass windows and Corinthian columns, the annual Feast of Saint Didacus on November 13th is a vibrant celebration! 📌Tips: Wearing a light-colored dress will make your photos even more magical. After years of neglect, it was restored and opened as a museum, now listed as a cultural heritage site. 👉The house has 12 bedrooms, each adorned with crystal chandeliers, a hallmark of luxury homes. Ascend the carved wooden staircase to be greeted by wrought-iron and glass window decorations and antique furniture. 🖼The second-floor bedrooms house old family photos and exhibits on the history of the sugar industry, offering a glimpse into the past. 🏺The old kitchen features giant pottery jars and nostalgic cookware. Every evening at sunset, the clouds on the horizon are painted with the afterglow of the setting sun, resembling a beautiful watercolor painting. 🚖Transportation: From Bacolod to Silay, take a jeepney/tricycle or a taxi, which takes about 10 minutes. It's very convenient, and the attractions are close to each other and within walking distance.
