Leaving Viroth's Hotel: A Bittersweet Farewell

"Do many people shed tears when they leave?" Apparently, an American woman did just last week. I get it, American Woman. After six days at Viroth's Hotel, where the staff genuinely cares whether you've had a pleasant morning, your evening plans, or whether you need an umbrella (yes) or a cold towel (also yes), it's like leaving your hometown for the Big Wide World. Frightening! How will I cope? Who will tidy my room multiple times a day and prepare my bed at night? Who will make my little French toasts just the way I like them? In the real world, if I need to book a spa session, do I need to give more than an hour's notice? Will I have to pack my own lunch for day trips? Maybe it's better to stay here forever. But we couldn't stay indefinitely, and on the day we were leaving, we noticed several of our close friends (i.e., the hotel staff, particularly Sokha, Reaka, and Many) were not on duty. "Perhaps they scheduled it that way so we didn't have to say goodbye." Yes, this must have been planned. Of course, arranging shifts like that makes sense only if we were the only guests, but with the way the staff treats you, it's easy to forget you aren't. The hotel’s architecture and design make you smile every time you look out from the balcony or walk down the spiral stairs. It's so stunning that even average service would make a visit unforgettable. Pretty special, then, that the kindest and most attentive team I've ever encountered works there as well.
