Mayi Museum

Mayi Museum is located at No. 1 East Street, west side of Chongfu Square, Shuocheng District, Shuozhou City. It is a national third-level museum. The museum exhibits more than a hundred national precious cultural relics from the ancient Cretaceous period to the 1940s, including the Northern Wei Dynasty Cao Tiandu Thousand Buddha Stone Pagoda Spire, Sixteen Arhats statues, Liao and Jin Dynasty painted stone sculptures, gilded wooden Bodhisattva statues, Yuan Dynasty gold ear cups, gold ornaments, etc. Mayi Museum is divided into seven major exhibition halls: the Preface Hall, the Statue Hall, the Calligraphy and Painting Hall, the Ceramics Hall, the Bronze Hall, the Stone Carving Hall, and the Miscellaneous Hall. The treasure of the museum is the Northern Wei Dynasty Cao Tiandu Thousand Buddha Stone Pagoda Spire. It is placed in the Statue Hall of the museum, while the pagoda body is currently preserved in the Taipei History Museum. Back then, the stone pagoda was composed of three parts: the pagoda base, the pagoda body, and the pagoda spire. There are more than a thousand Buddha statues carved in relief on the pagoda body. Unfortunately, after the Japanese invaders occupied Shuoxian City, the stone pagoda was plundered. Although the spire is now severely eroded, the finely detailed carving lines are still vividly lifelike.
